The efforts of the Bayer Group in the area of sustainability are world-renowned, with the company regularly placing highly in various rankings. This is due in part to the fact that comprehensive, consistent reporting has been established within the Group on the basis of the BaySIS project, a solution from Bayer Business Services.
BaySIS stands for Bayer Site Information System and is a development completed by Bayer Business Systems in five months that proved superior to all other solutions with respect to performance, ease of use and flexibility. With more than 34,000 data records received each year from 400 sites worldwide, Bayer’s requirements for the system were so stringent that no commercially available solution was up to the task.
Lean, decentralized design
BaySIS is designed to be very lean, utilizing decentralized information providers on site. Using prestructured questionnaires, specially appointed report managers provide the relevant HSE (health, safety, environment) data to a central database.A plausibility check prevents misentries, and crosschecks provide additional data reliability, e.g. by comparing the amount of water drawn with water consumption. The data are then consolidated in each subgroup and checked again for validity.
Faster data collection, improved data quality
Another strength of BaySIS is the user-friendly authorization concept that clearly controls which of the 500 users can only read data, which can enter data and which can comment on data. The questionnaires can also be quickly adapted to new requirements.Dr. Uwe Brekau, Senior Manager Reporting, Bayer AG: “With BaySIS, all companies that prepare sustainability reports can greatly accelerate the collection of HSE data while enjoying significantly better data quality at the same time.”
