Disposal with the click of the mouse
The Environmental Services unit of Currenta disposes of all waste from the chemical parks in Leverkusen, Uerdingen and Dormagen in company-owned facilities. Disposal services are also provided to more than 100 companies outside of the Bayer Group. A gargantuan task requiring tremendous logistical effort and the proper documentation of each work step.

Currenta performs these tasks with AMIS, the waste management information system from Bayer Business Services. Peter Blumenthal, AMIS project manager at Bayer Business Services: “With AMIS, everything that can be automated is automated.”

Entire workflow depicted

And this is quite a lot: AMIS supports master data administration, serves as a planning system, compares orders with statutory regulations and communicates online with waster generators and disposal operators and all the functions in between. Billing of the service is initiated via an interface to the ERP system. AMIS depicts the entire workflow and documents each step.

The Environmental Services unit at Currenta fulfills 110,000 disposal requests from its customers each year, with the average AMIS workflow for each of these orders comprising 22 steps.  It goes without saying that the use of such a highly integrated system can make the processes more efficient. “AMIS helps tremendously to reduce the outlay required for waste management,” says Frank Alt, an account manager at Currenta.

It's all automatic once the order is received

Once the order is received, AMIS completes the entire business process almost automatically. Orders can be rescheduled across site boundaries without any additional outlay on the part of the customer. A detailed logging function is used to transmit orders to the transporters. AMIS monitors all procedures, automatically generates all necessary transportation documents and logs all information about each individual step.

Changes to the law are not a problem for the system: It is continously updated with the latest regulations and new operational requirements of the waste generators and disposal operators.
